Reading VIPERS is a program that helps the children practice and understand comprehension skills. These skills can be practiced not only when the child reads but when they are read to also. It is important to practice the development of these skills aslongside their sounding out and blending.
Please click on the image below to view or print the reading VIPERS booklet.
This will give you a clear idea of how to support your child's comprehension at home, remember sounding out and blending to read words is only half the job! let me know how you are getting on in your child's yellow reading diary.
Please keep reading books in bags every day so adults can read in school with children. Your child will have one book at their selected reading level and can choose an additional story/read a book from home which develops their vocabularly and further understanding.
Please write finished to indicate a book needs changing
Please see inside of the reading record for vipers questioning to support your child's comprehension skills and QR codes for reading, spelling and phonics games.
Children to put their book in the reading basket if they need their books changed, a class reading monitor will oversee this each week. We will aim to change books regaularly, please take your time to ensure your child understands what they have read and include some VIPER questions whilst story sharing.
Adults in school write their comments in green.
